BBB Complex to Close in May 2027 as 3 New Residence Halls Prepare to Open

Housing changes accommodate student preferences to live closer to academic buildings and health, wellness and recreation facilities.
Nov. 6, 2026

As part of its comprehensive housing strategy, Syracuse University will close Brewster, Boland and Brockway residence halls and Brockway dining center (the BBB complex) at the end of the 2026-27 academic year.

The housing strategy, first announced in February 2024, includes opening three new state-of-the-art residence halls at the start of the 2027-28 academic year. Together, they will add nearly 1,900 beds to North Campus, allowing almost all first- and second-year students to live there. This reflects the housing review’s finding that students prefer living at the center of campus close to health, wellness and recreational facilities and academic buildings.

Dining

Both Brockway dining center and the dining location in Riley Hall will close and be replaced by a new dining center now under construction in the Waverly Avenue residence hall. The new dining center will be roughly the size of both spaces combined. Once complete, it will be the largest residential dining facility on campus and will serve nearly 6,000 meals a day.

Modern Rooms

Creating dynamic modern housing, that includes air conditioning, private bedrooms and in-suite bathrooms, along with other amenities, is a guiding principle of the housing plan. With the addition of Milton and Riley Halls and the construction of new halls on Ostrom, Comstock and Waverly Avenues, nearly 2,500 new modern rooms will have been added to North Campus by Fall 2027.

Options for Upper-Level and Graduate Students

Opening the new residence halls will free up space for third- and fourth-year students and graduate students who want to live on campus. Options will include two- and three-bedroom apartments and a one-bedroom apartment with study on South Campus and some North Campus residence halls, including Milton Hall, dedicated to upper-level students.

  • Rising juniors and seniors: Housing applications will open in the housing portal via MySlice on Monday, Nov. 16, to take part in a first-come, first-served housing selection that begins Tuesday, Dec. 1, and continues through Jan. 15, 2027.
  • Graduate students: Beginning March 2027, submit a housing application on MySlice to enter a separate selection process.

More information about housing options and selection processes will be shared directly with students in the coming months.
